In July of 2024 Ps Matt Forman and Ps Nic visited our Missions Churches Tonga to provide support to the teams and see first-hand the incredible work happening through City Impact Church Tonga, read on to hear from Ps Matt about his experience.
Please describe your initial impressions of Tonga.
When I first arrived in Tonga I noticed the beauty, but what stood out even more was the warmth and friendliness of the people. From the moment we landed, we were welcomed with open arms, and the kindness of everyone we met set the tone for the entire trip.
Tell us about the most memorable experiences or moments from your trip?
One of the most unforgettable moments was during a Sunday evening service when prisoners and their guards attended. Seeing several of them give their lives to Jesus was deeply moving.
What specific activities or projects did you engage in to support the local church in Tonga?
Our main focus was on developing leaders within the local church. We conducted leadership sessions for their teams and volunteers, equipping them with the tools they need to grow and strengthen their ministries.
How did the local community and church members react to the support and assistance you provided?
The local community and church members were incredibly gracious hosts. They took such great care of us while we were there, ensuring that we felt welcome and appreciated. They are always so grateful for any assistance we can provide, which made the experience all the more rewarding.
What did you learn about Tongan culture and community life during your time there?
One of the key lessons we learned was about the incredible generosity of the Tongan people. Even though they don’t have the same level of resources that we do, they are often more generous with what they have.
How did the mission trip impact you personally?
I absolutely loved spending time with the different campuses and getting to know the people better. It was incredible to witness firsthand the massive impact they are having in their local community. Seeing the gospel in action in such a tangible way was both inspiring and humbling.
What long-term goals or follow-up plans are there for continuing support and collaboration with the church in Tonga?
Looking ahead, we have several practical follow-up plans to continue our support. This includes providing clothes for prisoners, production gear, and training resources such as Gateway and Life Without Limits. We are committed to maintaining our partnership with the Tongan church and continuing to support their efforts.
