On Mission in Mexico: Reflections from 13-Year-Old Missionary Kester Reufus
On April 21st 2025, a team of 18 of us left Auckland Airport and headed for Mexico. Our mission was clear: to share the Gospel, strengthen connections with our Mexico City Impact churches, and provide practical aid to those in need.
From the moment we arrived, we were overwhelmed by the warmth and genuine love of the people. We attended church services and enjoyed fellowship with our Mexican City Impact family. It was like meeting long-lost relatives, even though we had never met before.
One of the biggest parts of our outreach was the Medical Clinics. These were held in areas of extreme poverty, and door-knocking played a key role in inviting people to come and receive care. We handed out flyers and encouraged families to get the help they needed – physically, emotionally, and spiritually. A few of us also spent time cleaning up rubbish from the area in front of the church. No task was too small when it came to making a difference.
The love we received from the people was matched only by the love we were able to share in return. Through the outreach programmes, we introduced many to Jesus and had the privilege of leading people to Christ. It was incredible to see how people’s faces changed. Not just from receiving medical help, but from encountering God.
The clinics included paediatricians, doctors, dentists, and physiotherapists, who met real and varied needs. But that wasn’t all, we also had teams giving manicures, creating balloon animals, playing games with kids, and sharing the Gospel in the streets. Every person on our team found a way to contribute, and every action, big or small, was part of God’s plan to reach hearts.
We handed out goodie bags and treats to the children, making sure they felt special and seen. As people returned the next day, you could tell something had shifted—they were filled with joy, peace, and in many cases, the Holy Spirit.
This trip has impacted my life deeply. I’m so thankful to City Impact Church, to our Senior and Lead Pastors, Ps Greg and Ps Matt, and to our faithful Mission Outreach Sponsors. Thank you for making this trip possible.
My heart is full, and I’ll never be the same again.
