We have Community Impact coming up on Saturday, April 5th, and this time, we’re heading out into the community to support families in a practical way. Watch as Pastor Mary-Kath shares a powerful story about Brenda, one of the grandparents we’ve been helping for the past 14 years.
Brenda had been raising her grandson since he was four, and just before Christmas, she gave Mary-Kath a call with some bad news.
She said, “I’ve just been diagnosed with cancer, and they’ve given me three months to live.”
Mary-Kath got in her car and went to see her. As she sat on her couch, Brenda started to remind her of all the things City Impact Church had done for her over the years. She remembered the garage being swept, the house being washed, the holes in the walls being fixed, the beautiful meals delivered, and the fresh coats of paint on the walls.
Then Mary-Kath asked her, “Do you mind if I pray for you? Have you ever accepted Jesus into your heart?”
Brenda said “I suppose if they’ve given me three months to live, then I should know where I’m going when I die. And I know I want to go to Heaven.”
So Mary-Kath prayed with her. That day really touched her heart. As she led her in prayer, Brenda invited Jesus into her life. Mary Kath was so touched and moved by the power of the Holy Spirit that he’d sent us as a church for 14 years to minister to this lady and she’d come to this point where she was ready to receive Jesus.
Brenda passed away 3 months later – when Mary-Kath got that phone call – she just cried because Brenda is in Heaven.
Everything we do to build God’s Kingdom and share Jesus matters. Brenda’s now in Heaven experiencing the best thing ever. I’m so grateful for a church that goes into the community and loves people unconditionally.
People in the community often ask, “Why do these people come? Why do they help us? Why do they want to help us?”
Because we do – we love you unconditionally and we care for you. And if no one else will, we will. Because we are the church. And together, we can make a difference.
