One of my favourite Psalms is Psalm 34. It begins with this:
“I will bless the Lord at all times;
His praise shall continually be in my mouth.
My soul shall make its boast in the Lord;
The humble shall hear of it and be glad.
Oh, magnify the Lord with me,
And let us exalt His name together.”
What is amazing about this Psalm is the context. King David wrote this Psalm while he was fleeing from Saul. David was literally running for his life, yet when he had a spare moment, he boasted in the Lord’s goodness and declared that praise shall continually be in his mouth. What amazing faith!
In whatever situation we find ourselves in, we should be challenged and encouraged to ensure the Lord’s praise is continually in our mouths. That was the kind of faith I was wanting to portray when writing the song ‘Your Love Conquers.’ The pre-chorus of the song says:
“In the trial, in the triumph, let our song reflect Your goodness,
There is nothing that could stop us giving glory to You name!”
Through our highs and lows in life, we should be encouraged that the Lord’s goodness never changes and His love never diminishes. I wanted this song to be fast-paced and fun; not to boast that ‘life is perfect’ but quite the opposite. I wanted the song to serve as an outlet to boast in the God’s goodness; A celebration in whatever stage of life we’re in. To encourage people to have the faith of King David, that no matter what is happening in life, we can declare the goodness of God and keep His praise continually in our mouths!
