Our First Week in La Paz

Mexico Missions Trip 2015 – Part 1

Eugene Tuigamala – 04/10/2015

Last Friday our team set out for a missions trip to Mexico. Two teams made of 37 of people altogether. For a lot of us, myself included, this was a long haul of a trip! For some it was their first time flying. But we knew in the lead up to this trip – from cultural item rehearsals, meetings, and Spanish classes – that it was going to be something significant. And it has been.

Our first week has just ended here in La Paz, where my team, led by Ps Greg and Krista Crawford have been hard at work. Partnering up with Ps Jorge in his churches in La Paz and Marquez de Leon, we have been painting the church building, digging trenches, brick laying, cleaning and landscaping. Our first day in La Paz was Sunday and so the team and I headed to church. It was so ‘home’, but just on the other side of the world.

The church here in La Paz carries the heart and soul of City Impact Church. Walking in the team and I felt so at home – not only amongst its people but the presence of God was so familiar. The congregation worshipped with passion and just looking around during worship we could see every word was sung with purpose, power and praise. Our medical team is made up of Dr Lize Upton, Dr Michael Armstrong, his wife Stephanie who is a midwife, and her midwifery student Brittany Campbell. They have been powering, seeing 35 patients or more a day and seeing several led to Christ!

Testimonies are coming in left, right and centre, and for me it has been such a humbling, surreal, life-changing experience. I can certainly vouch the same for the rest of my team, and Ps Mark and Leanne’s team who have been in Cabo for their first week here. We now hit the road and swap places with them. A new city but with endless opportunities to see lives changed by the power of Jesus.

Until then, we shall see you in Cabo! Adios!
