I Belong Song Story

Before writing the song ‘I Belong,’ I was always so inspired by a few scriptures found in Ephesians:
“Just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved.” – Ephesians 1:4-6

What amazing scriptures! There is so much you can unpack from these scriptures, but two things always stand out to me the most here:

  1. We are chosen children of God, adopted into the family of the Father.
  2. We are accepted in the Beloved; there is absolutely nothing we could do that will make the Father love us any more or any less than he does already.

I personally have such a heart for the broken Christian. Being a Christian isn’t always easy by any means. There are times of rejoicing and times of hardship. There can also be times (believe it or not!) where we make mistakes, which can unfortunately render us to feel unaccepted by the Father. I believe God never wants us to feel unaccepted. No matter how big or small the mistake we make, God is always willing to offer us forgiveness through repentance because He loves as not as a ‘Supreme Being’ who is distant, but as a loving Father who is closer than we could ever know. This inspired me to write I Belong; a song to remind us that we are His children who He loves and children who belong to Him.

“You love me through and through, Jesus I belong to You”
