Pastors Peter and Bev Mortlock
As the founders and Senior Pastors of City Impact Church, Peter and Bev Mortlock have a passion for building strong churches and helping people encounter Christ.
Peter grew up in the small town of Taranaki in rural New Zealand. He had a normal Kiwi up-bringing but at the age of 12 his father died, which impacted his family dramatically. Growing up he was not a Christian, but his Mother had a belief in God, and at the age of 13 his sister took him to a local church meeting where he had in incredible encounter with Jesus Christ. He says:
“The preacher asked if anyone wanted to receive Jesus as their personal Lord and Saviour and I found myself standing with tears running down my cheeks. I knew at that moment God was real. He touched my heart like nothing else I had ever experienced.”
After straying from God and leading a rebellious life throughout his teenage years, Peter returned to God, was born again, and filled with the Holy Spirit at the age of 21. These encounters led to a life sold out for the cause of Christ and building His church.
Bev was brought up in a Christian home and accepted Christ at the age of 4. When she was 12 her family emigrated from Canada to New Zealand. She says:
“For me, the privilege of being brought up in a Christian home which witnessed miracle after miracle, positioned me for a future where I knew that, through Christ, all things are possible.”
In 1982 Peter, Bev and their two sons, Mark and Tarry, followed God’s leading and pioneered City Impact Church, known then as Bays Christian Fellowship. The first service was attended by 20 people in St Anne’s Hall in Browns Bay on Auckland’s North Shore.
Over the years, God has been faithful to His leading and Peter and Bev have seen miracle after miracle as the church has grown and extended to become a network of churches across the globe.
Both Peter and Bev are sought after to minister at churches and conferences around the world, but their heart is with City Impact Church and its people. They have committed their life to creating a church that fulfills the original vision they had from God. One that:
- worships and glorifies God,
- sees people growing into maturity and wholeness,
- and sees souls saved.
“If ever there was a day the world needs the gospel, it’s today.”
